Get To Da Choppa

Overview

Get To Da Choppa was a game made by a team of 3 during a week long game jam at Imangi Studios. The theme was escape so we came up with a game that centers around the ending sequence of an action movie where you must get to a helicopter to escape. The catch is that the truck is controlled by 4 people where each person takes on a role to get to safety. The AI is pretty simple and the traffic simulation is not overly complicated, but it gets the job done. The ultimate goal is to create a frantic local multiplayer experience which I think we delivered on.

My Involvement

Although we were in a team of 3, my coworkers ended up having to work on something else so I made most of this game by myself. I ended up using GameMaker Studio 2 since I hadn't had much of a chance to use it since I bought it, but also because I believed it would allow me to go faster. This was my first time making a local multiplayer with multiple controller support. It was fun to get it working, but I ran into issues with controllers other than the PS4 dualshock. I really enjoyed making different loadouts for each of the roles. If I could have worked on it longer I would have added more weapons and improved the AI to make it more challenging.
