Fight To Survive
|
Overview
I made Fight To Survive in December 2013. It was the first game project that I made using Game Maker 8 and I made it over winter break after buying Game Maker for the first time. I was so excited about making the game that on the last day of development I stayed up all night to finish it.
The premise of the game is simple. I wanted to make a fighting game like the ones I had played, such as Super Smash Bros. Obviously this game is not even close to being Super Smash Bros, but when I was in high school I was just amazed I could make a video game at all.
I got the idea from my high school computer science teacher when he told me that his game design class was learning how to make a fighting game. When I had taken the game design class the previous semester, we did not cover how to make a fighting game and I thought it would be a fun challenge. I ended up needing a lot of help from online forums and tutorials, but I was able to finish the game, sound effects and all.
Looking back, I am surprised I was smart enough to implement a tutorial for the controls, but I guess that came from my experience at Oregon Game Project Challenge (OGPC), a game design competition I was a part of all four years of high school. Comparing this game to my most recent projects I can see I have come a long way since my high school sophomore year. Although this game gives me chills every time I open the source file, it reminds me of my passion for video games that has taken me thus far.
Controls
Z - Punch
X - Kick
C - Super Attack
Space - Jump
Left Arrow - Move Left
Right Arrow - Move Right
